It doesn’t matter what your age is and how great you feel, if you have eye bags and droopy eyelids, they can make you look and feel much older than you really are. A blepharoplasty (which is commonly referred to as an eyelid reduction) is a common cosmetic procedure that reduces excess tissue in the upper and/or lower eyelids, creating a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
This type of eye surgery works well for people who have:
Excess skin on the upper eyelid that droops. This can at times interfere with vision.
Too much skin on the upper eyelid that hides the fold of the lid.
Disproportionate wrinkling of the eyelid that increases the look of aging.
Bags beneath the lower eyelids or excess skin on the lower lids.
All of these things can be caused by the mere act of aging, exposure to things in the environment like pollution and the sun, and genetics.
Eye bag removal surgery is a simple procedure for both the surgeon and the patient. It On the day of surgery, your surgeon will mark incision lines with the natural creases of your eyelids. This will help any scarring be inconspicuous. The procedure can be done using either a local anaesthetic or general anaesthesia and takes one to two hours. The incision may be made on the inside of the lower eyelid and excess fat is removed but no skin is removed from under the eye. Alternatively, the incision may be made directly through the skin and can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids. The cuts are so tiny that they are hidden by the natural creases in the lids. Then, very delicately, the excess fat and skin is removed from each eyelid and subsequently closed.
Upper eyelid surgery is usually done on a day-case basis, but if upper and lower eyelids are done together you may need to spend the night in hospital. You can expect some bruising and tenderness to the affected area, as well as swelling. About a week post surgery, you may have any stitches removed. Recovery often takes around ten to fourteen days, and physical activity may resume thereafter.
