Skin Lesions is a broad term that refers to bumps, moles, warts and other protrusions of the skin. Most types of lesions are harmless, although some types of skin cancer do form lesions as well. Most people decide to undergo a skin lesion removal for cosmetic reasons.
Warts do not usually require surgery, as over-the-counter medications allow people to remove these unsightly growths. Alternatively, your GP or dermatologist may use liquid nitrogen to freeze the wart off, which only takes a few seconds.
Surgical removal of a skin lesion is usually done under local anaesthetic and can be performed as an office procedure. Occasionally, it may be possible to have the lesion removed during your outpatient visit, although if you are considering this, you should give prior notice. Plastic surgeons can use several techniques to maximise the chances of removing the lesion with the minimal amount of scarring. This includes the careful placement of scars to hide them in natural skin creases and the use of local flaps or skin grafts for larger lesions.
